The Boar’s Head is an old coaching inn
set within the magnificent Ripley Castle Estate
near Harrogate and has won numerous awards for
its food, high levels of service and comfort.
It is one of the Great Inns of Britain.
The Brasserie and Bar/Bistro both serve inspirational
seasonal menus. Lady Ingilby's pen is mightier
than the sword and all new seasonal menus are
heralded by a bombardment of food tastings as
wave after wave of new ideas are forwarded for
approval. You will never be bored when dining
at the Boar's Head as the menus change frequently
to capture the essence of each season and our
chefs believe in serving meals, not sculptures
on a plate.
Kevin Kindland, the Head Chef, expertise is
in modern European dishes. He works closely
with many of the local producers that surround
the hotel and supply it with the finest local
seasonal produce as well as produce from the
Castle’s very own Kitchen Gardens. Kevin’s
cooking style is fresh and combines fine blends
of flavours with traditional cooking methods
to prepare delicious dishes.
The Brasserie and Bar/Bistro offer affordable
meals in a relaxed atmosphere, together with
a fantastic selection of real ales and fine
wines for a relaxed lunch or dinner. They are
open every day of the week for meals at lunchtime
and in the evening, whether it be just for a
sandwich or starter or a full 3-course meal.
On Sunday’s food is served all day from
12 noon until 9.00pm.
The Brasserie is also available as a private
dining room for parties of 30-45. It makes an
ideal intimate venue for a family gathering.
And if you can’t get the date you want
for your party you could always enjoy your meal
and celebrate the occasion in one of the stunning
rooms available in the Castle.
The Wine list is personally put together by
Sir Thomas Ingilby who enthusiastically spends
months finding the right wines. A wonderful
selection of traditionally brewed local ales
and an invasion of Highland and Islay Malts
are also available.
There
are 25 comfortable en-suite bedrooms. All those
things which used to make the English feel so
much at home – lumpy mattresses, discoloured
walls, uncomfortable chairs and staff chosen
for their ability to communicate with all the
charm of a monolith are not found here. Staying
at the Boar's Head lends a feeling of exclusivity,
particularly when it comes to the details like
complimentary access to Ripley Castle's bewitching
lakes, walled gardens, grounds and deer park.
The Boar's Head also has the unique pleasure
of featuring antiques from the castle. Lady
Ingilby's sense of style has influenced the
bedroom design, as has her sense of fun. In
each bathroom a small toy boat may be found
for entertaining the young and the young at
heart
The
staff are encouraged to wear a smile and make
all guests feel welcome – nothing is too
much trouble. Children and well behaved dogs
are welcome. There are some wonderful walks
around the area and it is situated on the edge
of the Yorkshire Dales – an area of outstanding
natural beauty. The beautiful spa town of Harrogate
is only 3 miles away. Ripley has all the perfect
ingredients for a gentle stroll – art
gallery, ancient church, delicatessen, historic
castle, gardens and gift shop.
